Questions About TTouch®
TTouch is unique in terms of including bodywork (over 30 TTouches), movement or ground work, a variety of tools and techniques, and a positive approach to working with animals.
Linda Tellington Jones combined what she knew about horses with her study of the Feldenkrais Method over 30 years ago. Linda recognized the link between posture, behavior and performance. As she was working with the TTouches she noticed that the 'problem' horses that she was working with were not only more consistent in their performance but also became easier to handle, i.e. unwanted behaviors diminished. When these techniques were then applied to other animals including dogs and cats, the results were the same.
The movement exercises or ground work improve coordination, increase confidence, and provide focus. The exercises provide horses and dogs with physical and mental stimulation without increasing arousal. The result is improved physical balance, including gait, posture, and proprioception, which positively influences mental and emotional balance.
TTouch includes methods of walking in balance with your dog, i.e. leash walking without pulling. TTouch utilizes harnesses, body wraps, leash configurations, and movement exercises in order to help dogs move differently. They also seem to learn in a more calm and focused way.
TTouch helps animals gain confidence and learn better coping skills. The way we approach, handle, and interact with animals has a direct influence on their behavior and ability to learn.
TTouch is being used by pet owners and dog professionals, including: positive trainers, animal behaviorists, breeders, veterinarians, shelter and rescue workers, and dog sport (e.g. agility) competitors. Of course, anyone who shares their life with animals can use and benefit from the Tellington TTouch Method.
TTouch offers positive solutions to common behavioral and health-related problems, such as human or dog reactivity, over arousal, separation anxiety, excessive barking, chewing, leash-pulling in dogs, resistance to grooming, nervousness, shyness, fear of anything, including thunder or loud noise phobias, etc.
It can help to promote better health and ease problems associated with aging, overdoing self grooming, gait issues, tension patterns in the body, hip dysplasia, arthritis, and surgery.
