Aging Dogs

Aging Dogs: A Short Course February 9-23, 2023

Overview

In this 2-week course you’ll learn practical methods for keeping your aging-dog’s minds and bodies active. As dogs age they typically lose hind-end strength, proprioception, and they slow down just like we do– even mentally. As the aging process continues, they often lose function, e.g. going up stairs. Many of the tools and techniques you will learn in this course can be used with a dog of any age, however, this course is designed with older dogs in mind.

In this course you will get an introduction to at least two important movement/fitness exercises for aging dogs, at least one bodywork technique, key tips for improving everyday life, and more. These will help you support your dog as they age and you’ll learn how best to keep them active. If your dog has lost function, e.g. the ability to do stairs, you’ll learn what you can do to help your dog regain function. You will learn about equipment and tools that will make it easier for your aging dog to enjoy life more. You will also learn things you can do that will make your own life easier while living, loving, and caring for an older dog.

This is an introductory short course, meaning no prior experience with any of the topics covered is needed. You can submit 2 short videos each week (4 total) for feedback. I will provide feedback on your dog’s alignment while doing the exercises and give you tips and support for how to be more successful with the exercises and concepts presented in this course.

It can take 6-10 weeks for the exercises to have a significant impact on your dog’s strength and function. I truly hope you’ll keep going with the exercises you learn, and that you’ll let me know how it went!
